"The Garrison of Forte di Gavi" – European Heritage Days

For the European Heritage Days (29-30 September 2007), the Amici del Forte di Gavi Association and the Associazione Storico Modellistica Novese Compagnia della Picca e del Moschetto di Novi Ligure have organised a historical re-enactment, held on 30 September 2007 and entitled:

"The Garrison of Forte di Gavi"

40 people in 16th-century costume (from the Compagnia della Picca e del Moschetto) will be present along a guided tour route to illustrate aspects of civilian and military life during the period in which the fort was built.

After entering the fort (admission is free for the event), visitors can freely explore the square of the citadel, where there is a reproduction of a biscaccia, i.e. a tavern that served as a shop selling food and other goods for the garrison troops. This is the starting point for guided groups tours at the following times:

9.30 / 10.30 / 11.30 / 12.30 / 13.30 / 14.30 / 15.30 / 16.30 / 17.30

At the beginning of the tour, after the visitors' safe-conducts are checked, they will go to the Rampart of San Tommaso (also known as "Passaparola"). Near the Genoese flag they can see musketeers, who will show visitors how muskets works, from loading to shooting.
After visiting the tents, drum rolls will accompany a platoon of pikemen, who will march from the citadel for the changing of the guard at the entrance to the Upper Fort (some of the rooms are open to visitors and afford a breathtaking view of the Lemme Valley).
After returning to the citadel, visitors will observe from a safe distance as the cannon is loaded and fired, announcing the start of the tour for the next group.

 Sunday, 30 September, from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
"Munsrì in Gusto", a fair of typical local products (which can be tasted and purchased), will be held in the ancient hamlet of Monserito, at the foot of Forte di Gavi.
In the afternoon, a shuttle bus service offered by the Municipality of Gavi will bring visitors to the Fort. Times: 4 – 5 – 6 – 8 p.m. Departure from Piazza Dante, near the Cariparma Bank branch.

  Sunday, 30 September 2007, 6.30 p.m., Convention Hall
      Concert: "Farinelli's Delightful Airs"
